The Alabama Virtual Library provides all students, teachers, and citizens of the State of Alabama with online access to essential library and information resources. It is primarily a group of online databases that have magazine, journal, and newspaper articles for research. Through the AVL, an equitable core of information sources is available to every student and citizen in Alabama, raising the level of excellence in schools and communities across the state.

In 2009, a statewide voting was held to rename the Alabama Children's Choice Book Award Program. This section is devoted to the newly named Alabama Camellia Children's Choice Award. The Alabama Camellia Award program (formerly known as the Emphasis on Reading program) selects books from three grade level categories: K-1 (10), 2-3 (10), and 4-6 (10).

Study Program Search

Some schools encourage children to read by instituting study programs. These programs allow students to earn points by passing a test on each book that they read. The points are used to obtain prizes or extra privileges. Companies, such as Accelerated Reader and Reading Counts, sell tests for books on student reading lists.

Lexile Search

Some schools use Lexile values to determine the reading level of both books and students. You can perform a search using a minimum, maximum, or range of Lexile values.
